Pillow Talk: What's wrong with my sewing?

by Craig Conover

BBC can't help but love Craig. We thought it was time to celebrate that love by reading his 2023, well-reviewed book.

Craig Conover's book didn't leave BBC wanting more, but it also didn't offend anyone along the way. Overall, we enjoyed his stories from the early days of Southern Charm and his relation with a BBC favorite, Naomi. While many in the group struggled to finish the book, the opening chapter rubbed some readers the wrong way thanks to Craig's all-caps, shouting writing style. His tendency to repeatedly circle back to his procrastination and Adderall addiction also drained the group.

That said, Craig felt very much like the same person we've watched on Southern Charm. While some we wished he had taken more accountability for his shortcomings, that was balanced out by the fact that multiple BBC members had genuinely great experiences meeting (and smelling) him in person.

Cake Eater

by Carl Radke

Cake Eater by Carl left us wanting to learn more about who Carl really is beyond the show. We’d recommend it to anyone interested in stories of addiction and recovery, especially those who relate to his journey. While we appreciated his honesty, we wished for more insight into his relationships, post-college years, and life in NYC. At times the book felt repetitive, and overall it left us wanting a bit more depth.

Make It Nice

by Dorinda Medley

The group was pretty “meh” on Dorinda’s book overall. It often felt surface-level and a bit self-righteous, leaving us wishing she’d gone deeper into her fashion career, world travels, and life with Hannah. Richard’s cause of death also felt confusing and vague. That said, we did enjoy the moments where she shared the emotional rollercoaster of filming with the housewives.

Pretty Mess

by Erika Jayne

Our group was pretty split on Erika Jayne, with some loving her, some liking her, and some not so much. Overall, we enjoyed the book, but felt it lacked flow and was hard to follow at times. It reminded us of the love we originally saw between Erika and Tom in the early Housewives days, which made us wonder how she might view this book now after everything that has happened. In hindsight, the book did not age well, but learning about her upbringing did give helpful context for the Erika we see on RHOBH today.

Eat, Drink, and Remarry

by Patricia Altschul

Miss Patricia’s book was a BBC favorite. We love when someone surprises us, and Miss Pat absolutely did. From her successful career to her strong, feminist voice and all the fun little tips she sprinkled in, we were hooked. Our biggest meh was her unwavering love for Whitney...but that may just be classic mother, rose-colored glasses.

Love Me As I am

by Garcelle Beauvais’

Garcelle’s book gave us a quick peek into her life but still left us wanting more. We got the sense she often sees herself as the biggest star in the room—even when that may not be true. We agree stepping away from Housewives was the right move, and we’re rooting for her to find true love soon.
